John Lackey is a solid number two starter on a good rotation. The Red Sox have Josh Beckett who is also a solid number two starter and who is a little better. Lackey could line up to be the third starter in a stacked Red Sox rotation. Clay Buchholz, the young Red Sox arm, will be forced out of the rotation. He's capable of coming out of the bullpen if the Red Sox want, but they won't need him with their current bullpen layout.
