Jason Kendall is a very good defensive catcher and a good contact hitter. Edwin Bellorin is younger and can fill a similar role to Kendall and might be able to be better. Kendall can be used as a backup and mentor for Bellorin. The Royals still need a designated hitter, third baseman, center fielder, and right fielder.
