Jay Payton is no longer a major league player. Sitting out last year will not help him this season. He won't be able to perform with the bat, but he can be an above average fielding left fielder. Best case scenario, Payton can be used in the later innings as a defensive replacement.
The Rockies still need a third baseman and a catcher. Moving Russell Branyan back to third base would fill the hole at the hot corner and add more power which the lineup really needs. The Rockies should look at signing Paul Phillips to catch because he would fill their catching hole and their spot in the lineup the best.
