Rick Ankiel was a nice story a few years ago, but the major leagues have shown that he's a marginal player at best. He has made some flashy plays in the outfield, but he's not that great of a fielder. Upon his return to the major leagues, he showed impressive power, but that's if he gets his pitches to swing at. Pitchers have figured him out resulting in less production, lower batting average, and proving he is not an everyday player.
The Royals need more production in their lineup. Russell Branyan should be signed and play third base. Jermaine Dye should be signed to be the designated hitter. Chris Denorfia, Brian Giles, Gary Sheffield, or Randy Winn should be signed to play right field.
